Pros and cons of wool

Wool is a very versatile flooring option, it can withstand a lot of pressure, has excellent appearance retention propertied and a beautiful aesthetic! They can be very hard wearing and long lasting when cared for properly. But, you need to be able to put the time in to look after them and clean them to keep them looking as good as new for as long as possible. This style of carpet St Helens goes hand in hand with luxury and has always been extremely popular with not only home owners but in the hospitality industry as well. So how can you decide if wool carpets are the one for your home?

Well first you need to choose which style of wool carpet you’d like, 100% wool or 80/20 wool blend mix.  100% wool carpets/natural wool carpets are exactly that, 100% wool. The wool is usually from UK or New Zealand wool. Although you can get some wool carpets made using the wool from animals such as camels, alpacas and llamas! The 80/20 wool blend tends to be blended with other man made fibres. This is done in order to either add some flexibilty to the over all carpet, allow dying and colouring or increase durability.

Wool carpet pros –

  • Durability and strength. Wool has an amazing natural strength and durability, The fibre itself has a robustness and crimp that allows it to bounce back. This means the compression, tracking marks and shading have been significantly reduced.  That’s why wool carpets last for years and years on end.
  • Resistance to dirt. As wool is a natural fibre, it contains oils which makes it resistance to dirt and other oil based soiling. All wool carpets need to stay clean is a good hoovering!
  • Fire resistant. Wool is naturally very fire resistance which means it’s a good style of flooring to have in commercial properties!

Wool carpet cons –

  • Stains easily. Although it’s resistant to oil based dirt, wool carpets can actually stain very easily with liquids. So for spills such as coffee or wine, you’re going to struggle to remove it completely.
  • Sensitive to sunlight. If exposed to sunlight over a long period, it can cause the colours to fade and even ruin the look of the entire carpet.

FIVE SIGNS THAT YOUR COMMERCIAL BOILER MIGHT NEED REPLACING

Your boiler is a key part of your business, especially if you have a hard working team based in one set office, you need hot water and the heating to work to keep them safe, healthy and happy. But how can you prevent a boiler breakdown and get it replaced before it is able to cause any real damage? Well here are our top 5 signs that mean your boiler could need replacing soon!

Commercial boiler replacement

  • Leaks

A leak is never a good thing, but a leak could mean a few different things for your boiler. It all depends on where the leak is coming from. It could be something as simple as a broken seal or poorly fitted pipework (not carried out by us of course!) But this could then lead to rust or corrosion in the long run, and you could even end up with damp or mold problems in your building.

  • Kettling

This is the professional term for the whistling noise that comes from your commercial boiler system or even your radiators. No sounds like that should be seen as normal, so it’s something that you need to get checked out straight away. This kettling tends to stem from a build up of sludge and limescale, which can in turn reduce your boiler’s life expectancy massively.

  • Flames

A healthy and happy boiler with burn with a blue flame, anything else is a serious cause for concern. Anything other than a blue flame could potentially mean that there is incomplete combustion, which could led to a very real risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

  • Maintenance

If you’re finding that your boiler is needing more and more services then that is another red flag that it could need replacing very soon. It might seem the cheaper option to just keep replacing parts but in the long run it would end up working out much more expensive.

  • Age

Many boilers are designed and created to last for 10 – 15 years, so if you’re commercial boiler is coming to the end of its life span then it’s time to start thinking about replacing. Even if it seems like there is nothing wrong, a new boiler will actually be more efficient for your business in the long run.

WHY YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR REGULARLY!

Carbon monoxide detectors are installed into your house/property for your own safety. We recommend checking the detector from time to time to make sure it works as it should. It is also highly recommended that you check your carbon monoxide detectors every month. Checking the detector is as simple as pressing the button to hear a series of beeps.

Why are carbon monoxide detectors so important?

Carbon monoxide detectors are able to detect whether there is carbon monoxide within the atmosphere. If inhaled, carbon monoxide can be transported around the body, which can cause health problems from headaches to breathing problems. It’s important to have a detector as carbon monoxide can’t be detected by smell or taste.

It is highly suggested that your carbon monoxide detector is installed by a professional Gas Safe registered engineer (which all of our engineers are!) This is because they’re dealing with a hazardous substance and may harm yourself before you’ve even installed your detector. It may be a given, however it’s important that you never take a BBQ into your house, as they can produce a large amount of carbon monoxide, even when the flames start to die. On top of this, it is recommended that appliances, such as cabinet heaters shouldn’t be used in your house excessively as they can increase the production of carbon monoxide in your property.

So, now that you know how carbon monoxide works and the dangers of it; why not get one of our professionals to check your carbon monoxide detector? We can help install or support you with any issues which you may be having with your detector.

Our engineers not only deal with commercial jobs we are also carry out commercial heating jobs in school, hotels, pubs and many other places. Get in touch with one of the team today!

Leather or fabric sofa: which one works best in your home?

When choosing the perfect sofa there are many different factors which need to be taken into account, from material to longevity. We get asked on a regular basis what material is better for sofas but of course it all depends on your seating needs. So read on to decide for yourself what sofa would work in your home.

Leather or fabric sofa?

A leather sofa is a lot less likely to be stained and absorb scents compared to a fabric sofa. They’re also easier to wipe down and generally easier to maintain. If you want a light colour sofa then leather is the one for you! No one wants to deal with a stain on a light fabric sofa.

Another advantage leather sofas have over fabric sofas is that leather is a much more durable material, which is important if you’re looking for a long term sofa for your living room. This is especially important for houses with pets and children, as leather sofas are a lot less likely to leave marks and scratches; and even if they do it is easy to use a leather polish to get rid of the problem. If taken care of properly a leather sofa can last decades in your living room.

A drawback to a leather sofa compared to a fabric sofa, is the feel of leather. The feel of leather is not always everyone’s cup of tea, leather can be less comfier than fabric, despite being a lot more visually pleasing. That on top of the price can draw people away from the product as everyone wants a couch which is comfortable and fitting to their living room, however you can argue the maintainability aspect makes up for this and makes it worth the price, especially if you do like the feel of leather.
